Acrylic, gouache and glitter on Bristol paper

22" x 30"

by Richard Springer

Red barn and stormy sky over yellow field. Originally titled Harumi Saw A Coyote, for the artist's mother, Harumi Springer.

This painting represents an instance of pareidolia, the act of perceiving images out of the seemingly random shapes found in nature. It's fairly common for actual coyotes to be spotted in this part of town, but this time, she found one in the clouds.

The color pallete and strong black lines were influenced by the artist's love of Japanese woodblock prints, otherwise known as Ukiyo-e.
